Another Herald article

The Herald confirmed through Liddell's eldest that he did, in fact forfeit his opportunity to leave the internment camp. He gave his place to a pregnant woman: The inspirational story of an athletics legend is still being written.

Several ex Weihsien internees have expressed surprise at the claim Churchill was involved in negotiations to get Liddell released. As one who has researched Japanese internment camps in detail, and authored a book on the subject, I too find this claim to be suspect. As far as switching places with another person for repatriation, all British exchanges occurred in 1942, before internment began in China.

The legend of Eric Liddell needs no further embellishments.
