A Christmas Snow is ready to go!

I just got word that A Christmas Snow, the film in which I play Claud, a French chef in an Italian restaurant, is finalized!  Yahooo!  It premieres this Sunday: Itinerary.RichDrama.com.

Here's how they blogged it: The Screener is Done! ‹ A Christmas Snow.

Week One of filming For the Glory

Kyle Hornsby is creating a documentary on the making of For the Glory.  He's shared a montage from week one:

Available for performances in Asia

Scripture and church history are filled with art and story, and over the years I've seen those stories inspire, bring hope, salvations and re-dedications when told dramatically. And they're memorable. My wife got her MA in counseling, and she learned that memory is linked to emotions. I recently had someone tell me they remembered something I'd performed years and years ago.

All that from something that's fun and so easy to invite a friend to attend!

I've been invited to perform in Singapore during the inaugural Youth Olympics this August, and I'd love to offer one of my one-man plays while I'm in the region. I can't get to Singapore until 17 August, the second week of the Olympics, but I can linger after they close on the 26th. After that I'd love to offer performances in other Asian nations.

I perform nine different one-man plays with themes from Scripture or church history (RichDrama.com). On this trip the plays I can offer are:

Big Fish Little Worm (RichDrama.com/BigFishLittleWorm), which tells the stories of Jonah, Gideon, Jeremiah and Lazarus, with my own story of having grown up on a farm near Medford, OR, and having performed now in 19 nations...

and/or

Beyond the Chariots (RichDrama.com/BeyondtheChariots), takes off from where the four-time Academy Award winning film Chariots Of Fire leaves off, telling how Eric Liddell left Olympic glory behind to serve as a missionary, teacher and track coach in war-torn China. The play was performed in Vancouver during the Winter Olympics, Beijing during the last Summer Olympics, Off-Broadway, Toronto, Hong Kong three different years, and Shanghai.  It has translation slides in Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean and Spanish.

and/or

A workshop (RichDrama.com/Workshops). For the past five summers I've directed the theatre program at the MasterWorks Festival, where I've taught alongside Broadway and Hollywood professionals (RichDrama.com/MWF). This summer I'll be co-directing The Miracle Worker with John Kirby, who has been the acting coach for Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Word of Promise Audio Bible, and on most of Jim Caviezel's films. I would love to offer an acting workshop in conjunction with a play or on its own.

I'll be coming to Kansas City to perform in a Christian movie, and I'd love to offer one of my one-man plays while I'm there.

They just told me that they'll be filming my scenes on June 10 and 11, and then I need to perform in Chicago on the 12th, so it would need to be on the 9th or earlier.

Collegiate recommitment

Claude Chew's musical partner in tonight's concert is Dr. Andrew Lenhart, on piano. He shared how the faith of his childhood was brought into question by college professors. So he went to books like GK Chesterton's Orthodoxy and found that Christianity holds up from an intellectual standpoint.

In the mood for MasterWorks!

Our dear friend Claude Chew is performing tonight He and his wife met while students at MasterWorks. Hearing his Bach and Brahms is setting the tone for all the great music we'll hear throughout the Festival: www.MasterWorksFestival.org.

The real Al Ross

To me, Al Ross has only been a character in the screenplay until today. As the screenplay indicates, he was the one who convinced Kurt Kuykendall to try out for the college soccer team. I've been picking Al's brain for stories about his coach, so that I can play Coach Ryan more effectively in the film (www.RichDrama.com/ForTheGlory).

The more I hear of the story the more impressed I am with the work Katherine and Chris Craddock have done with the screenplay to heighten the drama.

My first scene was put on hold, but I'm up next.

It went well! One of the gals on set is from England and is familiar with the Scouse accent, which is what I'm using, and she was willing to sit with me and fine tune my lines.

Here's Al with Robby Stone who's playing him in the film...
Top photo by the guy playing Coach Howland.  I'll try to get his name posted later.  Bottom photo by producer, Chris Rogers.

Danny's first day on set

It's been my dream and prayer that we'd be able to funnel MasterWorks theatre (www.RichDrama.com/MWF) students into professional projects. With For the Glory (www.RichDrama.com/ForTheGlory) the dream is coming true and the prayer is being answered!

When I found out about For the Glory I invited all of our students and alumni to audition. There are several of us connected to MasterWorks that have been cast:

I direct the MasterWorks theatre program, and I'm playing Coach Sean Ryan.

Danny Cornett is attending MasterWorks for the third time this summer, starting in about a month. He was cast as Robby, the life-long friend of the main character, the future Olympic--then pro--soccer player, Kurt Kuykendall (www.Blog.RichDrama.com 5/15).

Alistair Sewell is the brother of two MasterWorks theatre alum, Anna and Lydia. Though Alistair's not old enough for the program--yet--he played the role of Wally Webb in our production of Our Town last year. He's playing Young Robby.

Danny's neice, Audrey Cornett, is coming back for her second season of Masterworks. She and her younger sister Ashley (a future MasterWorks student, I hope) will be playing cheerleaders next week.

Adina Kory, who attended the theatre program in '07 and was in the MasterWorks dance program before that, will fly in from Israel for a wedding in time to be a soccer fan in the film.

Connected For the Glory

Over lunch I heard the story of how this film was green-lighted:

Chris and Nancy Rogers run CDR Communications, Inc., and they brought Donald (pictured here) and Sandra Leow over from Singapore to work on some projects. When they first got to the States, the Leows actually lived in this house where we're currently setting up for the next shot.

When it came time to buy a house they chose Kurt Kuykendahl to be their realtor. Kurt told them about his church, The King's Chapel, where Donald met Katherine and Chris Craddock, who'd been shopping their screenplay about Kurt Kuykendahl.

Action!

The camera is rolling on For the Glory

My character isn't on today's call sheet, but one of the characters mocks my character's Scouse (Liverpool) accent. I'm here to make sure we're on the same page with the dialect.

It's great to be on set day one and be there for our director's opening speech and prayer. He said that if any of the cast and crew shares his Christian faith that he wants to talk to them, but if they don't then he really wants to talk to them.

We're praying for lives to be transformed through the making and watching of For the Glory: www.RichDrama.com/ForTheGlory.

Photos from A Christmas Snow

I just discovered some photos of me from the filming of A Christmas Snow on their website.  They are under "Additional Cast" on their Media: Pictures page.

Dedicated

After dedicating our film to the Lord, Pastor Bill Jesche preached on Philippians 4:10-23. He told his own story of life as a young actor, and how he had realized that he'd placed performing at the center of his life. When he wasn't cast in a play it devastated him. He challenged everyone in the film (and most in the church will be!) to do it all for the Lord.

A casual match with a pro

In For the Glory Danny Cornett, a MasterWorks theatre student, is playing Robby, the friend of Kurt Kuykendall, pictured here between us. Alistair Sewell, who performed in last year's MasterWorks production of Our Town will be playing Young Robby.

The film tells how Kurt got to play soccer for the Olympics. He went on to play pro for two US teams and three teams in England.

After our cast dinner Danny and I went to watch Kurt play a game. His team was made of members of The King's Chapel, the church that is producing For the Glory. It included Kurt's wife, at least one of their kids, and our screenwriters. They beat the other team soundly. I lost track of the score, but it was approaching 10 to zero.
