Interview After Performance at the Carnegie Hall of Kansas

I recently performed I Dreamed I Was Free at the Brown Grand Opera House, which I'm calling the Carnegie Hall of Kansas. The Brown Grand recently celebrated its 115th birthday.

Former Civil War officer Colonel Napoleon Bonaparte Brown had the opera house built with inspirations from the architecture of the Ford Theatre, so just before covering Let Us Worship in Washington, D.C., we toured the Ford, where President Lincoln was shot. One of the differences is that the Brown Grand has a second balcony, whereas the Ford has one.

After performing I Dreamed I Was Free I struck up a conversation with a young man who mentioned that he's starting up a podcast, Scripture Vectors. I asked if he'd want to interview me, and so we did it right on the spot! It just posted today: Rich Swingle Interview About John Woolman and Sharing our Faith.

The day after I Dreamed I Was Free I spoke to Teens in Christ and led them in Enacted Prayer. From there we walked to a local park and I performed Big Fish Little Worm. How wonderful to have the words of Scripture amplified through Concordia, KS! The local paper even picked it up...

I Dreamed I Was Free tells the story of Quaker abolitionist John Woolman, who spoke against slavery a century before our Civil War.

How Villains in Film Can Direct Our Prayers

Intercessors for America posted my interview with Todd Terry, who plays the main role in the hit series, Vindication: "How Villains in Film Can Direct Our Prayers." In this part of the interview he talks about his work in Running the Bases and Pursuit of Freedom.

Today could be the last day all three of these films are in a theater near you. Check local listings.

I've done interviews with creatives from all three and an article on Lifemark: www.RichDrama.com/HeadlinePrayer.

Lifemark Is Extended in Most Theaters

Audiences have spoken, and the one-week run of Lifemark in 1,500 theaters in 48 states has been extended in most theaters. Check www.LifemarkMovie.com to see if it will be in your local community next week. One way or the other, be sure to see it soon!

Here's an interview I did at Content2022 Film Festival and Media Summit with Stephanie Parker, who plays Azure in the film:

Here are Alex and Stephen Kendrick celebrating the extensions and praying over the theaters:

Lamplighter Guild highlights

We had such a profoundly impacting week at the Lamplighter Guild!

The students I was working with started with enacted prayers of actual prayer requests. Then we used sociodrama to weave those real prayers into a fictional drama. I was so proud of how we worked together to create a new work tracking a young lady from Salvation to discipleship to presenting the Gospel to a lost soul, paralleling the theme of the week, Foundations to Fulfillment: Fear-less + Faith-full.

There were many special guests, including Eric Ludy, who challenged us to parkour with joy over the obstacles of life.  Dr. Lew Sterrett broke a wild horse and was riding her in just over an hour, during which he was connecting insights from working with wild horses to raising and discipling teens. Profound! We were also blessed by recording artist Ginny Owens.

This epiphany after Ginny's concert was the spiritual highlight of the week for me:

A couple of days after this interview I realized it's an extremely intelligent position to stand against vulgarity in Christian-made films. God was smart enough to speak the world into existence, and He's the One who said, "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain," (Exodus 20:7) and inspired his disciple Matthew to say, "I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37) Screenwriters (or directors who add vulgarity) carry a deeper responsibility than the man on the street because they're demanding that the actors who speak carelessly--and any they inspire to do so--bring condemnation on their heads.

The Lord also inspired his beloved disciple to say, "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever." (1 John 2)

Vulgarity is typically used when there is an end to creativity.  The vulgarity is a nonspecific response to something beyond a person's immediate solution. If God has asked us to refrain, surely we can press into the Creator for more creative solutions.

Bruce Broughton and Dennis Spiegel were nominated for "Best Song" at the Oscars for "Alone Yet Not Alone," before it was rescinded. You can hear the song and find out more at www.RichDrama.com/AloneYetNotAlone.
